I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Tennessee (#3483), North Carolina LCMHC (19798), and Ohio (E.2404073) and have been in clinical practice since 2012. I completed a BA in Theological Studies, an MA in Counseling Psychology and SEP through Somatic Experiencing International.

I am EMDR level II trained and a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for the treatment of complex and relationship-based trauma. I utilize an integrative approach to healing, including mindfulness-based skill-building, somatic therapies and coaching for resilience and resourcing with a foundation in relational psychodynamic theory. I have worked in all levels of care for the treatment of eating disorders, process, and substance addictions.

ABOUT

WOVEN BONE SOMATICS

Ashley Liston Avnaim

-

I bring a playful approach to therapy that clients have described as refreshing, warm, safe and grounded.

I believe in the power of a therapist who has done their own work and the depth this can bring to treatment — I won’t ask you to do something that I likely have not done myself, or to explore terrain in which you might be better served by another provider. I believe that we truly are just “walking each other home,” so let’s help you come home to yourself (Ram Dass).

My other areas of clinical interest include: women's issues, body- and sex-positive education, multicultural concerns, the therapist as activist and movement-based therapies for supporting embodiment and relationship with self.

It is not uncommon for me to make the recommendation to take your somatic therapy to the streets or into a group fitness class for deepening integration of the work into your real life. That’s why you’re here, right?
